Pirate Cat Radio offers a progressive blend of talk and music that amplifies new voices and reflects the values of independent culture. Broadcasting on KPCR-LP 92.9FM in Los Gatos and KMRT-LP 101.9FM in Santa Cruz, we serve the South Bay and Central Coast with thoughtful, engaging content. We first went on the air from downtown Santa Cruz on August 31, 2020, relocated to Los Gatos in December 2023, and returned to Santa Cruz in August 2024. We also stream live at KPCR.org.

We don’t rely on algorithms to guess your taste; your phone already does that. Instead, our programming is curated by people with something to say and something to share. DJs, artists, and local voices introduce you to music and ideas worth discovering, including work created right in your community.

Our lineup includes local thinkers, comedians, journalists, and commentators. You might hear the comic who cracked you up at a club, the small business owner making waves, the organizer you saw speak at a rally, or the elected official you're still deciding on.

We approach issues with curiosity, clarity, and conviction. We’re committed to truth, fairness, and community—plus a sense of humor. Our values are not up for debate: climate change is real, equality matters, and systemic injustice demands attention.

Connoisseur To Kick ‘KFOX’ To Two HD2 Signals

At Noon Pacific on Wednesday, July 22, a new era will begin for a venerable Classic Rock station serving the South Bay region of the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose DMA for a generation.

This will see Connoisseur Media shift the station from a 10kw Class B FM with two boosters to a pair of HD2 signals.

As such, the future of KUFX “98.5 The Fox” will rely on modern radio tuners and on streaming audio, with KUFX’s HD2 signal and the HD3 signal of KMVQ-FM 99.7 in San Francisco poised to be the new home of air personalities including midday host Chris Jackson, afternoon host Ileana and morning man Morris Knight.


The changes are prompted by Connoisseur’s decision to sell the facilities — but retain the intellectual property and call letters — of KBAY-FM 94.5 in Gilroy, Calif. to K-LOVE Inc. 

With Country music experiencing a renaissance in mainstream popularity in 2026, the use of the 98.5 MHz frequency for “Bay Country,” simulcast in the East Bay on 92.1 MHz, ensures format continuity years following the demise of KRTY-FM 95.3 and shift to an online-only operation.

The only other Country FMs audible in the San Francisco Bay Area region are from surrounding locales including Santa Rosa, Monterey-Salinas, and Stockton-Modesto, Calif.
