I remembered enjoying her other series, the Black Magician trilogy, so thought I'd give this one a try and I'm giving it a thumbs up. Just finished the first book: "Priestess of the White." Interesting premise: this is a world where pretty much everyone believes in five gods, and they know that their gods exist and are real because they physically show up and talk to people from time to time. It's got all the elements I enjoy in these kinds of books -- strong heroine but not infallible, good supporting characters and storylines, a B story involving a semi-intelligent "pet" species, and although occasionally dark, it really never gets all that depressing.
Unfortunately, the library only had the first book. Will have to (gasp) invest in the next two in the series. Should get me through the plane rides to Houston on Thursday!
