Another from Destin Daniel Cretton. His 2nd feature film and the first lead role for Brie Larson. Also stars Rami Malek and Rosa from Brooklyn 99. It’s a modest story of people running a teen center. Brie is a frontliner alongside Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz - her role is minor). Rami is the nooB, also minor. It’s all about Brie who delivers an earnest performance as a survivor and leader facing her own demons as she struggles to help others. The psych stuff reminded me of many of my talkdown gurus. Moving, tragic, comic and sweet story in the end.
Cretton is an impressive story teller.
