If you love rock, this is an excellent documentary. The greatest 'unsung' singers of rock, Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Tata Vega, Claudia Lennear and others finally get some of their due. Admittedly, I've always leaned to the back-up singers - Stevie, Judy Mowatt, even MIA (well, Madonna tried to get MIA as her back-up singer and see where that got her). Regardless of that, this doc is well worth the watch - the back story on Clayton's 'Gimme Shelter' from her and Mick is astonishing.
This is my pick for the Oscar for Best Doc.

Congrats, DM, for posting topic number 666 under the Doom DVDs and Downloads category.
Looks like the four horsemen of the apocolypse are just in time for the year of the horse.

This doc seemed slight and lacked focus, a collection of anecdotes that didn't amount to anything. Granted some of the anecdotes were cool especially the one DM mentioned. ( Just noticed could also be an abbreviation for Doom? Wheels within circles with that guy)(Not thatGuy but DM) I think my favorite moment in the doc was when one of the back up singers was saying it was all about the singing and didn't like the sexy way they were ordered to dress and perform. And then the interviewer said 'But weren't you in Playboy' and the singer had no response except and embarrassed complicit smile.
I wanted this to be more revelatory. Telling me Phil Spector was a dick didn't really help. Maybe if they focused on one singer and dug deeper into their life. Or clarify the three women you wanted to talk about. A lot of it was reptitive. Yes, if you want to be a lead singer, stop being a back-up singer.
I was a little bored by the end. (Yes, those solos went on too long)

Just get to the point, would you?
As for the whole ED/DM, some things concern me more than others.

I'm still not getting what you are trying to say.
Is it heretical to bring up the possibility a film could be bad and still win the Oscar?

Lady Cranefly an I decided to boycott the Oscars last night, because neither of us owned a cot designed for a boy.
Anyway, I've been plagued by curiosity all day, wondering about this.
Does anyone happen to know what won the Oscar for Best Documentary?

...but given her journey, it was somewhat understandable, and showed why, despite her astounding pipes, she will always be a back-up singer.
Honestly, I thought Act of Killing was going to win. That had the most buzz I think and I do want to see that sometime. But then again, all of the other entries seemed very depressing, so perhaps 20 FEET FROM STARDOM WON THE OSCAR FOR THE BEST DOCUMENTARY because it was the only one that was sort of cheerful.

Cheerful in the way that they are living lives of quiet desperation?

...then they send them home with a measly paycheck and a tiny credit in the liner notes, just enough to keep them going between house cleaning gigs.
But when you compare that to Indonesian mass murderers, covert war on terrorists, and the revolution in Egypt, yea, cheery. No comment on the old artist couple. That's just odd.
