LOS ANGELES – September 9, 2025 – New Regency announced today that Balestra, the second of five original titles in its QCODE slate, will premiere on streaming in late September. The psychological thriller follows the successful debut of Edge of Sleep, the firstQCODE release, which launched on Prime Video via Prime Video Direct. The series quickly broke into the platform’s Top 10, where it remained throughout its initial weeks on the platform, and is now also available on Tubi. Edge of Sleep stars and is executive produced by YouTube creator Markiplier.Balestra stars and is executive produced by Cush Jumbo, currently seen in Apple TV+’s acclaimed Criminal Record, now in production on its second season. Jumbo is known for standout performances in the critically acclaimed New Regency series The Beast Must Die and on stage in Hamlet and Lady Macbeth opposite David Tennant. She rose to prominence as Lucca in The Good Wife and its spinoff The Good Fight. Additional credits include Stay Close and the Sony Music podcast Origins with Cush Jumbo, where she interviews cultural figures such as Anna Wintour and Harlan Coben. Jumbo is represented by Curtis Brown and Anonymous Content.Joining Jumbo in the series are Manny Jacinto (Freakier Friday, The Acolyte), James Badge Dale (1923, Hightown, Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy) and Christin Park (Surface, Charmed). The series follows a competitive fencer who agrees to test an experimental device that allows her to train inside lucid dreams. As she pushes the limits of her mind and body, she encounters a mysterious stranger who threatens to unravel her marriage, her sense of self, and her pursuit of Olympic gold.The series is directed by Nicole Dorsey, whose debut feature Black Conflux was nominated for three prizes at the Toronto International Film Festival and named one of TIFF’s Top Ten Canadian Films of the year.
