The Outfit (2022)
#1
A Mark Rylance tour de force, but aren’t all his works so. He plays a cutter with a mysterious past, who allows his suit making shop in Chicago to be a drop point for the neighborhood crime gang. But then something goes awry.

It’s more like a play - all set in the suit making shop and precisely crafted dialog, perfect for Rylance’s fine diction. I predicted several major plot points early on, like who was the ‘rat’ but still enjoyed the journey to get there. It keeps up decent tension as the plot thickens and the deceptions compound. I predicted the final blow, the coup de grace, and was spot on. Sometimes I enjoy films better when I nail the predictions. It should be the other way around but there’s always some satisfaction in being right and seeing the writing structure and plot devices early on.

Not particularly D00M recommended unless you’re a fan of Rylance (like me) or enjoy period plays about Chicago gangsters
