Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo (2009) by Jessica Oreck
#1
Beetle Queen makes quick work of Rodan, struggles a bit with Mothra, and finally squares off with Godzilla for the conquest of Tokyo.

Or not.  Actually Rodan is not in this.  Nor Mothra.  Or even Godzilla.  Even Beetle Queen is a no-show.  Instead, this is a documentary about Japan's fascination with insects.

Not long ago a man who liked the sound of crickets started keeping some indoors.  His friends took a liking to them and wanted crickets too.  It grew into a business, and similar businesses sprung up, all selling various insects in small containers along with their food and habitat needs.  Stores are everywhere, jampacked with insects in their cages, along with butterfly nets and collector boxes and other accoutrements of collection.  All aspects of the phenomenon are touched on, including capture techniques and even looking at historical precedent (past emperors who appreciated insects), and its close association with Haiku.

Light-hearted oddball fare.  Mildly recommended.
