Bad Girls Go to Hell (1965) by Doris Wishman
#1
(seen on Criterion)

Ellen wants to cuddle in the morning, but Ted has to go to work.  After he leaves, she cleans the apartment in a negligee and takes trash out in the hallway to the disposal chute.  But a janitor sweeping the hallway spots her and attacks her.  After the rape, he tells her not to tell anyone.  Besides, they'll never believe her.  He then makes her come to his room where he tries to rape her again.  But in the tussle she hits him over the head with a heavy plate.  Now a murderer, she sees no recourse but to flee Chicago.

In NYC, she is helped by various people who aren't really bad, yet somehow they always lead her into further bad situations.

The movie has a double twist ending that I won't spoil for you.  You'll just have to watch it for yourself.

Ellen is played by Gigi Darlene.  If that name sounds familiar, it's because she's appeared in other notable fare such as Olga's House of Shame, White Slaves of Chinatown, and 50, 000 B.C. (Before Clothing).  This will no doubt come as a shock to you, but Gigi Darlene is not her original name.  She was born Heli Leonore Weinreich.

Anyway, she spends most of this movie traipsing about in a negligee.  Not that I'm suggesting she's a loose woman.  She's actually very strait-laced.  It's just that she dares venture out alone from her apartment, and that gets her into all sorts of trouble.  The title is more a commentary on how women who get victimized get blamed for their own terrible experiences.  Doris Wishman is noted for bringing a social awareness of this truth to the dirty-picture table: realistic (if sensationalized) depictions of the plight of women in what is obviously a man's world.

There is no real nudity in this film.  It's like climbing Everest to within a few feet feet of the summit but having to turn back, never getting a glimpse of the top.
