This is the story of Gilman St warehouse and the bands that passed thru it, so it’s also the story of operation ivy, Green Day, and rancid among many, many others. Narrated by Iggy with lots and lots of old footage, fliers, zines, interspersed with commentary from members of bands from the time.
Produced by the Green Day guys, it gets a little into the sellout debate about success vs the punk movement. It made me think of the SNL Weekend Update but David spade did where he essentially said Green Day was ripping off the clash and I thought spade just came off as an asshole (which I still think) and I wonder after they really broke what he thought.
Recommended if you are interested in that sort of thing. I’ve seen a few shows there and played there once, so this poked at the nostalgia button a bit for me, even tho I never felt part of that scene.
