I'm beginning to think the Netflix algorithm is working perfectly because it is only bringing me films I hate.
Maybe hate is too strong a word. But I have a tremendous case of oy vey. It's another movie about an irredeemable character who never gets redeemed. You spend 2 hours and 10 minutes with a loathsome character and who wants that? Especially since there isn't even a sword fight.
Yes, Adam Sandler disappears into the roll of a degenerate gambler who owns a high end jewelry shop that caters to the hip-hop athlete realm. He owes money all over town. He keeps pawning things he doesn't own to pay off bets. But he still owes money on other bets. He cheats on his wife. He gets his father in trouble. He lies to everyone.
But I didn't really care. I checked a lot of facebook during this. I just wanted it to be over. And it meanders. It took a long time to get going. It was also shot sort of cinema verite style. Or maybe that Robert Altman style, which I don't care for. Everyone talks all the time and over each other so you don't know where the focus of the scene is. In the beginning it was hard to tell what was going on.
Too much work.
Where is Captain America when you need him on a lazy Saturday?

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
