Bradley Cooper. Yeah, we remember him from when he was just Sydney's beleaguered boyfriend in Alias. That was a great show and Stacy said he had great potential back then, while I was focused on Jennifer Garner. She called that one right. Oddly, there are two other Alias cast members in this film. I guess Bradley kicks down to his old pals.
It's got an odd style to it. Lots of jiggly hand held camera shots, kinda cinema verite-esque or tries to be, and a few of the shots really work. A lot doesn't tho and comes off affectatious in that oooh, i'm being artsy sorta way. The timeline is choppy. It moves super quickly with Gaga's rise to stardom. You can never tell how much time transpired between scenes unless they overtly say something like 'been here for three months' or something. There's some pivotal scenes that will stick with me for their boldness but I don't think it earns all the accolades surrounding it however. Gaga steals the show. She's so talented and nails the role with a real genuineness. Sometimes however I just wanted to see her perform and forget the plot of the movie, which is foreshadowed so much that it's quite predictable. It's really all about Gaga. Having seen her live several times, she's truly amazing and cannot be judged on her media image and pop radio songs. But in the end, I felt the film was overrated. No swordfights. Not DOOM recommended.
