So. Is this a jian (straight sword) or some sort of jian dao hybrid (straight sword/broadsword).
It looks like a straight sword, but the majority of his techniques are broadsword. Perhaps you or DM could enlighten...

It was a straight sword. The form he said he was doing was Shou Jian Dao.

Shuangshou = two hand. This is a variation of Li Enjiu's two-handed sword form, the same one that Tony and I learned when we went to Shandong. Remember that CF? They might tell you it's a traditional Shaolin form, but a lot of the Shandong forms came to Shaolin when they made the films.
