Dancer in the Dark (2000)

Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier (2000)

You'd think a song-and-dance movie would finally lighten things up. But...

This was the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

Selma (played by Bjork) is a Czech immigrant slowly going blind. Her son inherited this hereditary condition, and his eyes are starting to go bad too. Selma works multiple jobs and saves every penny for a sight-saving operation for her boy before it's too late. But time is running out as her own eyesight worsens, making work harder, and some really bad things start to happen. She cheers herself up by performing song and dance numbers.

Did I mention depressing? I've merely touched the tip of the gloomberg. Just want to make sure you're aware of that. You know, that despite this being a magnificent performance, it is a real downer.

Okay, let me attempt my first smilie to knock this home: :ANAL:
