Jade
#1

The debut of Shaina West, a stuntwoman turned action star. Mickey Rourke plays the gangster kingpin and he looks terrible as always. Daniel Dae Kim is Jade’s handler and he phones it in. It’s all about Shaina who gets 3rd billing after those two even though the film is all about her.

This tries to be Tarantino-esque but it’s just another grindhouse blaxsploitation actioner. Shaina has a solid presence. She’s buff, big guns, cut abs, and a fro 3x the size of her head. She’s good, acts well enough, easy on the eyes (and ears with her charming Brit lilt), and handles complex action fairly well. The story is about Jade acquiring a hard drive thst the gang wants, and she takes out like 50 guys who cannot shoot with guns that never need reloading. We never find out what’s on the hard drive & theres some good double-crossing twists in the end, but the film hardly holds together. Jade does get a katana as she’s raiding Rourke’s mansion complex office but her technique is to twirl the blade about against a gangster and then shoot him with a gun she picked up off the last thug she killed. I do hope Shaina lands a better role someday because she has potential. This film is like her as a diamond in the rough.

Not D00M recommended.
