Based on a Korean webtoon, a runaway loser ends up working for Chinese restaurant that delivers while his buddy takes a job with a gang. It’s a comedy, but it gets rather dramatic as the stories turn tragic. I watched it because the grumpy cook at the restaurant is played by the mighty Don Lee and I was curious to see if he can do comedy. He can. He’s the best thing about this. And ultimately, his character goes the sanguineous way of all his characters.
This is an odd and uneven film. There were moments that were almost mo lei tau with the runaway’s mom, a former volleyball champ, having a powerful flying slap that sends people across the room. There’s a lot of slapping. I did laugh out loud at something but I can’t remember what that was just now. Then the mob enlistee’s grandmother is suffering from dementia and just peels water chestnuts all day. His mob job gets ugly as mob jobs do. There’s some undertones of social issues and poverty it those don’t quite land. The fights are sloppy like real fights, mostly the boys getting their asses kicked.
Not bad but not great. It was mostly about Don Lee in a goofy role.
Not D00M recommended. There are plenty of better Don Lee flicks to get into first.
