A Bollywood epic starring Ashkay Kumar, who I’ve been a big fan of - I almost had the chance to interview him for KFM as he’s an avid martial artist, but it fell through. And I think I’m getting off the Akki train because this film was terrible.
Akki is an atheist archeologist and this begins with an absurd fire fight at the site of the Bamayan Buddha that was destroyed by the taliban. That leads to the discovery of an immense lying Buddha underneath the site, which has nothing to do with anything because this is about Ram Setu - the bridge that connects India and Sri Lanka - built by shri Ram in the Ramayana. Akki is manipulated by a rich villain into claiming it is natural so he can cut a canal through it for his boat. Akki (playing Aryan which is a name I never got used to) has an epiphany and sets out to find Ravana’s palace in Lanka.
There’s one dance number that’s right after the intermission and the best part of thr film. There’s a deep sea diving suit that’s like iron man under water. There are two innocent main character deaths that are shocking but not mourned for very long because we gotta get on with the story already. It’s preachy and beats it’s message into the ground in the first half hour, leaving two more hours to beat it down some more.
I was hoping for a depiction of Ravana, like if they found him. There’s was something like that, a character from the Ramayana incarnates, but it’s dumb.
Not D00M recommended at all.
