The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling (2018)
#1
It's the story of Garry Shandling from soup to nuts stretched over 4 hours. Fortunately, Garry loved to take notes. Lots and lots of notes. And films. And notes. Basically Judd Apatow, the director and close friend of Garry, inherited a giant chest full of Garry's note pads. Excerpts from the notebooks form a framing device for the story.

It's a long film. There's a lot to cover. Although there are not big shocking revelations with the exception of the lawsuit against Garry's former manager Brad Grey. That was kind of interesting look at the manager-client relationship in Hollywood.

But it's mostly interviews with famous friends interspersed with clips from his seminal TV shows and his stand-up specials. Some of it is really funny. From the interview list, it seems like Garry interacted with every favorite comedian of our generation. Everyone from Jerry Seinfeld to Kevin Nealon. Ricky Gervais to Sacha Baron Cohen. It's quite the exhaustive list of luminaries.

It was a good investigation into someone's life. And if you liked Garry or his shows, it might be worth a watch.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
