Belfast (2021)
#1
I have now seen six of the films nominated for Best Picture. And that is important.

Belfast tells the story of Buddy and his family and the people on his street in Belfast just at the start of the Troubles. The Troubles in Ireland was the time of violence between the Catholics and the Protestant. Catholics and Protestants lived peacefully together on Buddy's street until outside groups decided they shouldn't. Buddy's family has to decide whether to stay or go. The movie is loosely based on Director Kenneth Brannagh's childhood in Belfast. The movie is sweet and sad and funny.

We did have to turn on the subtitles because we were only getting about seventy percent of the dialogue. There's a lot of Van Morrison music in the film. I'm going to say too much. Between every scene there was a song and the majority were by Morrison. And if you have subtitles on, you get the lyrics to the song.

But overall a good film. Good story. No sword fights. Two riots.

Saying "I'm Buddy from Belfast" really helps me access my atrocious Northern Ireland accent.

This was good. Charming might be a good word for it. Recommended, especially for the Anglophile DM.
