I downloaded the app. After scoring so much merch from the Worlds Away app, I’m always downloading the app because they can be useful in unexpected ways.
It has been alerting me about events all day today. Nothing that I regret missing. It’s a pleasant gentle reminder that my geek tribe is still gathered and celebrating themselves.
This year was less than last. But last year was awesome, hard to beat. Two more years to go…

FXSF2025 Press Pass approved!
This may be the penultimate FXSF. Their contract goes for 5 years and this is year 4.

Just downloaded the FXSF app. Almost every con now has an app.
This one actually looks useful.
I'm planning on being there Friday and Saturday. Tara is joining me on Friday, and I'm staying at her place that night. She might do Saturday too, depending upon how far she's gotten on a paper due next week.
Starting to get jazzed for this. I was going to revive my Way of the Househusband cosplay, but now I'm thinking of just going as myself, which is cosplay enough really. Maybe I'll don my Shaolin Team jacket - got some mileage out of that previously because it looks like some sort of anime thang, but it's reality.

Friday done. Tara & I had fun. She managed to only spend $6 on a pin for a present. I spent $75 on an embroidered dragon fleece top (so self indulgent but it was a new vendor out of PRC with some gorgeous jackets and this was the most practical and affordable) and $30 on pins (also a present). We bumped into a JNK conspirator who was flying solo having just broken up with her man of a few years. We all hung out a bit at Galaxycon earlier this year. We checked out 2 panels - both voice actors - AtlLA: Toph & Iroh / Clone Wars: Ani, Obi, Padme, Ventress. Ashoka. Both were fun.
The interviews are sketchy - they say they’ll call me but I only plan to be there until the afternoon tomorrow. We shall see. I think I’ve got my story - it’s lined up from previous cons i did this year.

Day 2 was chill. Lots more attendees and cool cosplayers. More vendors too. Tara & I walked the floors again then watched an educational tea ceremony demo from a Japantown group. We also watched a boffer group and I was sorely tempted to go kick their asses because no one had any technique, especially the double weapon players.
Handed off my pass to Bri so she could enjoy it and took the 1 home for the scenery. Always a lovely drive when I have a few extra minutes.

5 miles on Friday
6 miles on Saturday but I also did China Cats that night so that inflates the mileage.
Tara said they checked out the Office panel with Dwight & Angela. They enjoyed that.
My take home is that Toph is perfect for cons. Some celebrities really know how to work it. Toph is up there like Ray Park or Danny Trejo. I should endeavor to interview her sometime, mostly because she's so ebullient. Maybe next year.

As I predicted way back at SDCC, K-pop Demon Hunters would rule. Golden was the soundtrack to FXSF - there was even a DJ set dedicated to KDH with a cosplaying DJ. It’ll be a talking point in my coverage, something that would’ve made for a solid 2025 con trilogy on KFM had the site not been so intermittent. But what can ya do? This was a weird year for KFM but I count on it for my press passes. Fan gatherings are way too expensive for me.
