Seven part mini series from Thackery's book (which I have not read, nor have I seen the movie with Reese Witherspoon from 2004). Michael Palin turns up to introduce each episode, playing the part of the author. I enjoyed this a lot; many of the characters are schemers and we see their fortunes rise and fall. Some things seemed to happen abruptly, and at least one character wasn't well introduced, but I guess that can easily happen with 800+ pages of source material. Surprised to see Giles from Buffy. Olivia Cooke, whom I have not seen before, is charming as the main character, a poor girl trying pretty much anything to better her lot.
