Crazy Rich Asians
#1
A delightful rom-com Cinderella tale set in opulent Singapore, which has blossomed to become even more spectacular since we were there 2 decades ago. Luved it. We laughed and got misty on cue. Michelle was pitch perfect for this, a role seemingly written for her to play now, and Constance & Ken who I don’t really care for completely won me over. Harry gets the best ‘you got a lead credit for that?’ since Hamill in Force Awakens. A few good Asian in-jokes but most were fairly obvious. You don’t need to understand mahjong to get the poker play. Recommended for a date, even for DOOM.
And if you don’t like it, I get to call your racist.   Tongue

Have you seen who I work for? That‘s my every day.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Seen it. Liked it. Desperately want to go to Singapore to see the triple building with the roof top that connects them all.

If there were Asian in-jokes, I didn't get them. I thought the scene on the stairs with Rachel and Michelle was killer. I thought the Astrid sub-plot didn't tie into the overall movie very well. The Queen fights me on this.

Rom-Coms are my jam.

Singapore is amazing.  Very western friendly.  And we were there in 97 before much of that even cooler stuff was built.

That scene and when Michelle drew the mirror universe sword in ST: DISCO made me fall in luv with her all over again.

So CRA is the first book in a trilogy - think of Lord of the Rings but with Asians instead of hobbits. The second book is China Rich Girlfriend.  That's the whole set up with Harry at the end that I mentioned earlier with my  ‘you got a lead credit for that?’ comment.  Maybe that's an Asian in-joke because Asians tend to track Asian stars and Harry went from Glee to RotGD (http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4571) and the role he'll play in CRG is rather dark.  Astrid is the counterpoint to Rachel.

Ha! I bailed on the mid-credit sequence, so I had no idea who this Harry was you were talking about. (I was leaning towards Potter because of your fetish) but I have now learned and I am in sync with your post.

Moving on.

I enjoyed this a lot. Awkwafina was great. FYI, the Marina Sands Hotel where they have the party at the end is in a show called Amazing Hotels and it's worth watching.

So Harry Shum is just in that one shot in the credits? I had to feed the dog and take her outside so I missed some bits, including the wedding.

The wedding got an audible gasp from Tara when we first watched it. She was smitten by the romanticism of it, which is odd for her.

As for Harry...

Aside from Glee, I actually first noticed him in Shadowhunters, which was crap but he was pretty much the best character.

I loved him in Glee. He was also in Revenge of the Green Dragons, which kinda sucks. http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4571

If we are still talk about Henry Goulding, what about The Gentleman

CRA has been in steady rotation on HBO and I keep going back to the bits and pieces that I enjoy, mainly the Mah-Jong scene and the plane apology. The wedding scene is just crazy.
