Taking Woodstock
#1
Woodstock is just the backdrop, but that's amusing. There's a lot of nods to the documentaries. The decor and fashion of the times is well represented, except for the hippies themselves, who look too much like modern hippies. The real archival footage of original hippies had a bit of a different look, a bit more Sgt Pepper, if you will. One of the characters bore a striking resemblance to a deadhead friend, which was strangely disturbing. The soundtrack could have been a lot better, considering the subject. Ang is still processing gay stuff. Umbridge turns in a non-Potter, non-UK role and really delivers. There's a decent Alice Dee scene but it's not quite out there enough in terms of a real trip. That would have been helped by 3D. No sword fights, but some decent baseball bat fu and Umbridge delivers a crushing blow to the boys which is quite amusing.

I was sure I already reviewed this when I saw it at the Nickelodeon's 20th anniversary screening last year. It was a big event for the Nick. They did a giveaway before the show. Asked if any of the attendees had been at Woodstock. Several had. Also asked if any had seen Janice or Jimi, again, several had. I was sure I wrote all this up on the forum. Maybe I was just high...
