Another French film. I really must be more careful. True story, like Into the Wild, but the diametric opposite in a way. Inside of being able to run away into the wild, the protag is trapped in his body from a stroke. Bauby was the editor of Elle, struck down by stroke at just about my age now, so I figured it'd be close to home being an editor and having my Dad as a stroke victim. It wasn't. It was a French film. Lot's of incoherent effects, moments of abstract visions that were overdone and random nekkidness. Beautiful women doing seductive things unconsciously. Philosophizing over cigs. Rather abrupt ending, as if they filmmakers were going somewhere and then just bailed out hoping the sudden shift would seem profound and increase longing in the audience. Some interesting light, capturing a seaside hospital, but that's about it. Very disappointing.
Say non to French film.
