Something Wicked This Way Comes
#1
It was cheap, it seemed like a good book for October, and it's about the only Bradbury book I hadn't read.

In the afterword, the author said that it started out as a short story that was cut from his first collection. And it should have stayed that way. It was WAY too long, and he indulged himself in the overblown "poetic" description that made me unable to get more than a few pages into Dandelion Wine. It had some good moments and images, but I kept thinking that much of it (particularly the "meaningful" dialogue) could have been edited out with no loss.

SPOILER: And defeating evil with laughter was silly (and later better done in the Star Trek episode where they fought with swords).

I like the short stories, but both his novels are losers.
