Daniel Wu recommended this to me. Giant Robot was a cutting edge Asian American magazine that I was very proud to write for back in the day. It became a groundbreaking phenomena. Wu was one of the early writers for it, as was Margaret Cho, and it discovered many notable artists. This doc cathed the spirit of it well, how it sprang from two Asian punk rock fans and grew into something museum quality. And I didn’t put together the Linda Lindas connection, which was super cool.
I don’t really D00M recommend this because I suspect none of you ever read this, but on the odd chance you did, it’s a good watch. I learned a lot I didn’t know and I read is assiduously back in the day. I wish I wrote more for them but I came in as they were finishing up. They paid me with a GR shirt which I still treasure - it’s the Bruce Lee DJ image that was appropriated by the Giants for Bruce Lee day. I have two shirts with that image and a love them both.
Giant Robot was more of a so cal thing but they did have an SF store for a while.
