I saw this to see Dolly. I saw the picture of Dolly in her leather Rock and Roll outfit and needed to know what she did.
This was a really fun show for me. With the exception of Lionel Ritchie, I enjoyed all of the performances. In many cases, I wish they played longer sets. In most cases they did two songs, but I think Pat Benatar did three.
And Pat Benatar brought me right back to seeing her at the first Us Festival. She was inducted in with her husband Neil Giraldo. The big point was to give Giraldo his long overdue credit. I wonder if Rick Springfield is still angry that Giraldo did all the guitar parts on Jesse's Girl instead of him?
Duran Duran was fine. I never much cared for them but they had a fun set.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis put out a lot of records.
Carly Simon was a no show but Brandy Carlisle sang her hit. They said on the show Simon wasn't there because of the deaths in her family but I also heard she was protesting about her performance.
For Lionel Ritchie the highlight for me was for Dave Grohl to play guitar on one of the songs.
The Eurythmics were good but Annie Lennox can't hit the high notes like she used to. They could have played longer.
Eminem was funny. He could have done some more recognizable songs. Or maybe I'm just not as familiar with his work as I should be. During his speech he just listed every Hip Hop act that influenced him. His list was at least three pages long. He had Ed Sheeran and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler help him out.
One of the things I really liked was seeing all the stars in the audience being fans to the musicians on stage and singing along. LL Cool J sang every song and was really touched when Eminem said he was influence.
Judas Preist could have played a couple more songs. I laughed when Rob Halford spoke and his first line was "I'm the gay one in the group" No mention was made of him being kicked out of the group for some time.
And then Dolly in leather outfit barely containing her feline assets. She wrote a rock song for the event and played electric guitar. It was a very country rock song. The last song of the night was Jolene. She was joined on stage by the other female nominees who loved singing their verses along with her and to her. And Rob Halford was there with them, obviously enraptured by Dolly as well. I'm not sure if Dolly knew who Rob was in his leather trench coat.
But it was a good show. I only fast forwarded through a few parts of the four hour show.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
