The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis
#1
I gave up on this. I didn't know a series was coming out either.

You probably all know the story: an alien comes to earth, hoping to help the people of his dying world. But in the middle of the book, he obviously starts to become an alcoholic (which the author was, incidentally). Since the blurbs call it a tragedy, and all I remember of the film the last shot of Bowie drinking, I just couldn't keep going. It seemed like it was going to be too bleak.

Not for me, maybe for some of you. Tevis does write well.
