The Count of Monte Cristo
I’m 2 deep and it’s ok so far. Jeremy Irons was good as his jail mate, but that’s really just e2 he’s in (I’m assuming we all know this story so no worries about spoilers). At the end of e2, he makes his escape.
It’s lush with scenery and costume as Masterpiece is. I’ll see it through - 8 eps I think.
Not going to judge until the sword fight.

2 more in and it’s growing on me. The Count is getting more vengeful and the location moves to Paris. I keep seeing shots of Paris where I’ve been, much to my delight. The overall look of this is magnificent. And the story is moving slowly but steadily. Irons still gets that prestigious end credit at the beginning main title, but he’s really only in e2 (unless he comes back in a flashback). Ready for a sword fight but if memory serves, there’s only one at the end.

2 more down and just 2 to go. There was a little sword fight. It was unimpressive. The cat and mouse game is afoot and the tension is building for the vengeance payout. The count’s reveal to Mercedes was very well played, a fine scene of restrained etiquette covering mutual emotional breakdowns. I’m quite invested in the characters now and eagerly await the come uppence of all the villains. It’s been a slow burn but satisfying, as if to savor each moment of revenge.
Let’s goooooo!

All in all, a well told version. E7 teases a pistol duel and a sword duel but this is not a version thst goes deep into dueling. It’s all about the baroque sets and costumes. Once I settled into the attitude, which was about when they get to Paris, it all fell into place and I enjoyed it. It’s a tasteful version; it’s Masterpiece after all. Classy.
D00M recommeded.

Grantchester S11 the final season
It’s the 3rd vicar Alphy & Geordi for their final 8 episodes. I’m about halfway through and have called most of the murderers early using the detective show theory of the least suspect. It’s really more about the continuing cast and their chemistry. Most of the primaries have been with these roles all the way through.
Stacy has already seen it and didn’t notice that it was subtitled ‘the final season’ but realized it was the end by the finale. I’ll see it through.

The first two or three seasons are streaming and I liked them. I wasn't sure it would work when the first vicar left but I think the second vicar was better.

Will had the longest run and I liked him better than Sidney too. Alphy had thr shortest and final run and being Indian, he brought in racial issues, but those seemed minor to the homosexual issues that also are brought.
S11 seen. It was a fitting conclusion to the series, not too heavy handed, and ended on an idyllic note. We enjoyed the series overall. It was pleasant. Somewhat sad to see it end but also happy that they didn’t drag it out anymore.
