Lots of fun.
We did the 3D/IMAX experience. The 3D wasn't that great but the giant screen and wall of sound was worth the $13 ticket. I loved Jim Starlin when I was a kid. It was almost a physical flashback to see these characters, the references to Nova and the 70's soundtrack. I also appreciated the grittiness of the script. The heroes were true anti-heroes. They were thieves, thugs and murderers bound together by circumstances and more than willing to kill each other at the earliest opportunity. They gambled, drank and, cursed. They killed indiscriminately and seemed to thrive in the violence. Yep - a great kid's movie, just like the posters promised. Apparently some parents were not thrilled with the talking-raccoon movie they brought their 5-year old to see. All in all one of my favorite action flicks of the year. I like "The Avengers" better but would definitely watch again. The only criticism I have is that it sets up "The Infinity Gauntlet" saga, but the gauntlet made a cameo in the background of the first "Thor" movie. How am I supposed to take the film seriously with such a glaring hiccup in continuity? Unless the gauntlet in Asgard is a prototype...

The problem with seeing films like this late in the game is that everyone pumps it up and raises my expectations too high. It was funny, sure, and very visual, but it didn't blow me away as much as it has others. I enjoyed the chemistry of the guardians a lot. Bautista is at his best for sure. And Zoe is better when she's covered by special effects. It had that Marvel rhythm which I do enjoy watching at the time, but forget right after seeing it and then get annoyed at the general neurosis of U.S. superheroes. Neurotic superheroes are silly to me. Although I confess, I'm not familiar with this story line at all, so it was amusing to see some characters that were fresh for me.
S started watching it but got sleepy and went to bed just a short way in. She hates superhero movies. T loved it. She laughed so hard. She and I got into this 'spot the poach' game. Hey, that villain looks like Darth. And look - he's talking to someone who looks like the Emperor. And that mine looks like the Dark Mark. And Groot is like Chewy, only covered in bark instead of fur. It was all about Groot for her. She squealed with delight at sapling Groot. How much did Vin Diesel get paid to voice Groot? Rocket was good too. I'm always amused when digital characters upstage human actors, just like Yoda and Jar Jar in the Phantom Menace. The barrage of visuals reminded me of PM a lot actually.

Seems like GotG should have its own singular thread since there are now three movies. Somebody talk to the admin to sort that out.
Featurette.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

True to form, I forgot most of what happened here so it was good to review it. It’s still entertaining. I probably should’ve watched this then V2 but I wasn’t sure if I was going to watch this so I figured it’d be better to watch V2 just in case I didn’t. The holiday special makes a lot more sense because I’d forgotten the Footloose reference in this.
