The Eagles: A history
#1
Came in late and watched until the end. I always thought it was Don Henley that was the dick in the band. Turns out it was Glen Frey.

This was kind of a white wash. They did show the warts but only a little bit. Don Felder's departure is still a bit mysterious. It came down to money but Felder seemed really upset he was no longer in the band. I don't know if the emotion was for the money he lost or the band he lost. Like I said, they could have delved a bit deeper.

I came in just as they were breaking up so I didn't get a lot of the formative years. I'm hoping this doc will eventually appear on Netflix so I can get the early years. Basically the band parted after an Alan Cranston fund raising concert. Felder was unhappy about playing for free. Frey was mad that Felder was unhappy. Almost came to blows on stage.

Looking back their break up doesn't seem to be all that long, fourteen years. It seems the arc of all successful bands is break-up and get back together when the money gets really good. Or carry on with a new lead singer.

Saw the first half on DVD. I am fulfilled.

Learned lots more band trivia. Didn't realize that at one point Glen Frey was part of Bob Seeger's band in Detroit until his mom caught him smoking pot and made him quit. Didn't realize the Desperado album was such a flop. Didn't know David Geffen was such a dick.

Fun film. If you like the Eagles, I would recommend it. You do hear all their songs over the course the film.

I love The Eagles. One of my earliest albums was "The Eagles" with the leather-textured album cover. This was the era before 'genre' music. Pop shared the charts with country and R&B.

I caught this on cable and watched it from start to finish (4+ hours).

Ummmm...no point really. Just I love The Eagles.

...ok, not really. I like the Eagles too.

I worked the Hell Freezes Over tour at Shoreline. More limos than I have ever seen at a show. Ever. At the end, it was like revenge of the middle-aged prom dates gone bad. Really bad. Like reality TV bad.
