Not a funny Woody flick. In fact, a rather depressing one. It has moments of humor, but it's really more wry irony. It's a tour de force for Cate however. She's a xanaxed-out Stoli-swilling former NY millionairess bottoming out in SF and she totally nails in on all levels. I've always liked Cate. She has a weird face, like Anne Hathaway, huge nose, mouth too wide, huge buggy eyes, but both make it work to be quite glamorous. Cate also takes on wacky roles, from Dylan in I'm not there to Elf queens, to sword-wielding Russian villainesses in Indiana Jones.
Woody shoots SF and makes it look like NYC. The cast is all NYC. It's like a typical NYC Woody flick that just happens to be in S.F. S & I were amused but felt S.F. got short sheeted.
No swordfights.
At the end of the flick, T yelled "What!?!?!" She was rather disappointed at the existential ending.
