I'm not a huge Metallica fan (mainly because I think Lars and James are massive assholes) but I do like the music.
My non-DOOM friend Alan suggested we do a guys night out and see this in 3D. We drank some whiskey and had a couple beers before the show at the AMC 16 in Emeryville. He had bought the tickets in advance and was worried about getting good seats for the Tuesday 6:20 PM showing. We got into the theater with 5 minutes to spare.
It was empty. We were alone (not to last - two folks came in a few minutes later).
It was a really fun movie (if you like metal). A live concert in Brazil outdoes Pink Floyd in props and SFX, a synchronous narrative of a roadie on a quest to rescue a stranded delivery truck mirrors the songs with images of riots, chaos, murder and mayhem. The band plays, the stage explodes, the roadie battles with cops and zombies and ultimately Metallica plays their "hits" until the show is over and everyone goes home.
I like 80's - 90's metal and had a great time. The 3D was wasted; I would have traded 3D for IMAX in 2D with better sound, but all in all it worked.
Did you know metal fans have the same psychological profile as classical music fans?
