What a medium film.

Ben Stiller plays an action hero in a vietnam war film. Robert Downey Jr. plays the method actor who undergoes ethnic realignment surgery so he can play the black guy. Jack Black is the drug addict star of fart films in his first serious role. And there is a real black guy playing the rapper. I am sorry I don't know his name.

One week into filming, they are already two weeks behind. The director is losing his mind. The writer of the book upon which the film is based, played by Nick Nolte, suggests dropping them off in the jungle and letting the actors suffer to infuse the film with some realism. He wants to get the actors out of their comfort zones. Comedy ensues.

The actors are dropped in amongst drug runners. Stiller thinks they are still on film. Downey never breaks character. Black is running out of drugs. Did I mention comedy ensues?

There were a few laughs. They reached far but they never quite got it. They settled for crudeness in a lot of cases instead of humour. I did like the Tom Cruise role ( I just spent ten minutes trying to remember his name. Maybe I'm blocking). Try and find it on youtube.

I'd wait until you are trapped in the airplane before seeing this one.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

I also enjoyed the Apocalypse Now Brando bit from Stiller (whom I usually can't stand). And Nolte falling on the detonator ala Bridge on the River Kwai. But it was much more of a flat out action movie than I expected.
