Heroes of the East
#1
A classic, an absolute Shaw Brothers classic, fully restored to DVD glory. I miss the title Shaolin vs. Ninja, despite there being very little Shaolin in it (just capitalizing on 36 Chamber fame), but watching this brought me right back to staying up late and catching some cheesey kung fu flick and then stumbling across this gem. Katana vs. jian, karate vs. drunken style, judo vs. peanut oil, yari vs. qiang, nunchuk & tonfa vs. 3-section staff, sai vs butterfly swords, and of course, shaolin vs ninja (crab style, no less) plus some powerful cleavage fu for good measure. It takes some 40 minutes marital martial arts until the plot is set, and then it just rolls from fight scene to magnificent fight scene. One of Gordon Liu's top films ever. They just don't make them like this anymore.
