Can you resolve this by going soft on your chronology? I get that chronological is the logical organization path, especially as you compile your story, but for dramatic effect, you could break that up in your final draft. Think Memento. I also think it's valid to confess that you were so scattered during this period that your memories are jumbled. If handled well, that could also add drama. Those short jobs are worth mention, but if there's no story, just mention them and get on with it. No reason to dwell where there's no tale to tell.

Print the legend.

Ha! I found some pictures that I was looking for from one of the films I was missing while working on a completely different problem.

But I've made to Angels & Demons. That's going to take some words.

RE: The Unfinished Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-04-2020

I finished the week at 85k words.

"All work and no play makes Greg a dull boy" X 8.5K?

Pretty much.

RE: The Unfinished Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-10-2020

My writing flow has been thrown out of whack with the film festival announcements. I'm not getting as much done as I'd hoped. But it's a problem I will take.

RE: The Unfinished Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-11-2020

I hit 90k today. I'm well behind the schedule I put up for myself. But I only have two more movies to write about and an epilogue.

RE: The Rough Draft of the Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-15-2020

The rough draft is complete. I came in at 91,587 words. Time to go back in and add all the words I dropped out. I figure from what I've seen about novel lengths that should be enough. Or maybe even a bit too long.

I purposefully did not look at the occasional diaries or trenches or wrote because I just wanted to get things out. I'll go look through them now and see if there is anything I forgot. I did however spend a lot of time looking at the pictures because that helps.

I'm currently thinking of two titles. One, I've mentioned before, "It's Everybody's First Film Every Time" which might be too wordy. Or "Soundstages have no memories" We'll see. It's early days yet. It's too bad the one friend I had with connections in the publishing industry lost his job due to the pandemic.

"It's Everybody's First Film Every Time" Is a good subtitle. Is there a one word slang term for set builders/carpenters, no more than two syllables?

Example: Roadies: Livin' the Dream one groupie at a time

Wood Chucks: It's Everybody's First Film Every Time

Whingers: It's Everybody's First Film Every Time

Morning Wood: It's Everybody's First Film Every Time

Nailers: It's Everybody's First Film Every Time

RE: The Rough Draft of the Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-26-2020

I've reached the I-want-to-be-done stage of the copy edit. I want to be in the have-people-read-it stage. So I'm going through it on Saturday. I'm at about page 90 of 144 pages. I will be changing stages today. But I will be closer.

Once I am done with that, I can wait for feedback on the book while I wait for something to break on the movie.

What are your publishing plans for this?

RE: The Rough Draft of the Film Memoir by Greg - Greg - 09-27-2020

At this point? Begging. Is that a plan?

My next stage is to find a literary agent.
