I've never watched this. And it's a popular one among martial peeps.
I mentioned that I wanted to see it to Tara and she raised an eyebrow. Apparently, within her younger hipper anime circles, all the Cowboy Bebop fans are assholes.
Well, I'm a fan and I'm an asshole, so she's batting 1000 so far.

2 eps deep in the original anime. It certainly has style. It’s a fine mash-up of sci-fi, westerns, & anime with a driving jazz ska beat. It feels a little dated now but I imagine that back in 98 it was cutting edge.
I’m not feeling the martial arts of it. There was a funny nunchuck bit in ep2, plus a Bruce Lee billboard and a corgi-napper named Hakim like Jabbar in Game of Death. But it’s more about gun play so far.
It has a post-apocalyptic ghetto feel, like Bladerunner, something now done to death in anime. There’s humorous bits and lots of nasty public toilets so far.
A rogue bounty hunter tale. Cho will be able to nail Spike as long as he’s given the leeway. If the effects are up to snuff, this should make for a fine live action.
It’s not blowing me away but I'm not bored either. It is interesting from a historical anime perspective. Will keep watching.

2 more eps in. Slowly making that asshole conversion. The show has some cool 60s style and the music drives it. Since they have the original composer for the live action, I hope they can echo that there.
The rogue crew expands. The space casino was cool. It reminded me of when Vegas had the Star Trek experience. That was awesome. I was there for Phish and our hotel was across a monster Vegas parking lot, but we hung out there because it was like being on a space station.
There’s definitely some visionary stuff for its time. The space battle style seem echoed in The Expanse.
The eco-terrorists were slightly off-putting to me - 2nd reference, the first was Hakim’s comment to Spike - set up for this perhaps. The sea rats reminded me of chimera like creatures echoed by Avatar The Last Airbender.
Valentine is hawt in that anime way. I luv the corgi and expect more from it.

My big question now is does Daniella Pineda have the sassy chops for Valentine? She is a local gal, from Oaktown, graduated from Mills. I've not seen anything she's been in and Faye Valentine is a tough act.
