Entertaining. A loyal throwback to 80s action, complete with gratuitous car crashes. The original cast reprises their roles, all updated for 2024. Eddie looked better than he has in his last few efforts (of which I've seen too many) and he returns to the character of Axel easily.Not an out-of-the-ballpark hit, but a good nostalgic effort for a Netflix watch. There's plenty of plot holes, lots of shooting where only the villains get shot until, well, that would be telling, but it's got that same vibe as the originals, witty Eddie bits spliced between action bits, heavy on the car crashes. Some nice additions to the cast including Gordon-Levitt, Bacon, and Taylor Paige. I enjoyed it so much that it made me want to go back and rewatch the originals.

A classic Greg is the enemy of fun review.

I had two metaphors the aging prostitute trying to seduce you or the sixty year old man still trying to recapture the glory of his high school days.

It was painful. I kept thinking didn't I already see this in the first film? They even kept playing the same songs. The most salient point was in the beginning when everyone is flipping off Axel as he drives through the streets of Detroit. I should have joined in. Maybe because my brain is broken now when I see a car chase and they destroy dozens of cars all I can think is who is going to pay for all that damage? Insurance? Does it come out of Foley's pocket?

The plot seems to be rehash after rehash played out to the Neutron dance. The mockery of how of touch the people of Beverly Hills with the normal people is relentless and we've seen it before and done better. I think the moment that really hit home for me is when Foley goes into the hotel he checked into in the original and starts to do the voice to con the concierge into giving him a room when Foley just stops and says I'm not going to be whacky for this. Just give me a room. It was such a breath of relief.

The film lacked cleverness and originality and style. The Daddy/Daughter relationship grated on my nerves. Taggart and Billy were just really old. Kevin Bacon was hamming it up and wasn't too horrible.

I think the thing that amused me the most was that Shooter McGavin was in the film. Just way out of left field that a character from an Adam Sandler film just sort of popped in there.

When I told the Queen I was going to watch this, she told me to enjoy myself and promptly left the room. I should have gone with her.
