Not to be mistaken for George Foreman, he was part of thr 3 the hard way crew from Dayton OH under master Sen Gao. I’ll never forget when they humbly approached me to ask me to autograph my book. They sheepishly asked if I was into reggae (before our Shaolin Rasta group rose, the connection was obscure in Kung Fu circles). We forged a deep friendship over the years.
George was a surprising character. He dressed like a pimp, flamboyant trench oats and hats, sometimes with a crazy cane. He was into comics and drew himself, mostly scantily clad buxom females. One year, back when TCEC was contiguous with Big Wow (which eventually evolved into SJCC) we both had passes. He bought his and I got some in trade because I sorted an exchange with them, hoping to lure some cosplayers over (it didn’t happen). We did a quick stroll of the rows together and he was delighted to introduce me to several of his industry friends.
Another year, they came out for the Shaolin festival that was cancelled when PRC did a crackdown that banned international travel for all politicians (the abbot holds a seat in People’s council). They had bought their tickets and attended what few events survived (that’s a crazy story on its own). Israel Vibration was playing at the Cat and I invited them over. We had a great night.
Despite his quirkiness, George was a cool cat. He could drop into cold splits at any moment. He was obsessed with art supplies. He had a wicked sense of humor. He was the only on of the 3 on social media so we kept up with each other there.
I hope the other two - Chris & Terry - come out this year, but I doubt they will. We shall see.
