Half-Life 2 nad Half-Life Episode 1 - PC Game

Here it is July 2007 and I'm just now playing the hottest game of 2005.

That's because I a) have a life and b) refuse to start playing a new game until I have finished the current one on the 'Normal' or 'Medium' difficulty settings.

As you all know, Half-Life 1 ended with Gordon Freeman being sucked into a wormhole or walking into the sunset or eating a banana split with a marmoset or something. I can't remember, I finished that game months ago.

Half-Life 2 opens with Gordon slowly returning to conciousness and being lectured to by a creepy Agent-Smith-ish man-in-black. After the lecture you pass out and wake in a moving subway train.

The graphics really shine as you make your way through a desolate city-scape filled with rusted swingsets, fences, litter and a de-humanized populace. An endlessly droning voice tells you how wonderful life is now that humans are partnered with the oppressive Combine.

You (as Gordon) slowly gain notoreity by joining forces with the small resistance groups and eventually inspiring them to victory over their eveil Combine overlords.

The controls are tight, weapons and ammo are perfectly scattered so you never have too much or too few and the fights are exciting. There are speedboat chases, ATV runs and you even get to lead a squad of giant insects as you make your way to the heart of the Combine citadel, and it's inevitable destruction.

Half-Life Episode 1 picks up right where Half-Life 2 leaves off, with Gordon having to make his escape from the imploding Citadel and assisting the paniced populace in retaking their city.

These games are fun, exciting and beautiful (in a post-apocalyptic way).

You can also get both for only $25 from Steam.

Yes - I actually paid for a game. Maybe it is the end of the world.
