Wow, well, I'm impressed that this film has caught the nation's attention. I take that as a good sign.
It's kind of a hot mess, but that's somewhat it's intention. A lot going on, more than I anticipated. Cf said something about the film having a lot of messages. I think it was all about America Ferrera's speech, which is a great moment.
The film has a lot of great moments wedged in with goofy satire. Patriarchs should be upset because it goes right at their throats. Gotta give Mattel props for allowing itself to be the brunt of parody. Will Ferrell as their CEO? Bold choice, smart play.
Tons of Barbie Easter eggs that went flying past me. I think all the props, sets, and costumes were based on real toys. There some fine mockery there, like I remember that growing old Skipper and the Barbie with a videocamera in her chest.
No one could play Barbie like Margot. She kills it and shows the kind of range only she can do. The funniest line for me was a meta reflection on her in the role from the narrator.
WARNING to tg - both Michael Cena and John Cera appear in this film. That might be confusing for you. It made me chuckle imagining you watching this.
One of the Ken's was bugging me because I recognized him but didn't remember from where (he was Gravik in Secret Invasion). There's a lot of in-jokes/cameos with the cast. I only got the Dua Lipa one. I kept thinking of Scapino because Ken's journey reminded me of his Playboy collection.
I was entertained throughout the film, so the pacing was solid. I was sitting next to a little girl (our showing was nearly sold out on a Tuesday night) and she wasn't getting any of it.
The best part was going to a movie with cf again. It has been years...
D00M recommended but go with your sig O, or perhaps another D00Mbro.
