I have started the first engagement of the move. I found a web host that does the transfers for you. But I need to round up some information first. I went to my current host and all the domains were good to start except one: Stro The Movie. Naturally. I was getting a message asking me to transfer the domain to the host I wanted to transfer from. It should have shown I already had the domain parked on the host. That led to an hour of Live Chat to figure out the problem. They pressed some buttons on the back end and now I see what I need to see.
That's enough for day one.

We salute your diligence!
I’ll be offline from Sunday to Friday. I hope to come back to a shiny newly hosted forum. I dread coming back to an amnesiac void in my memory…
Best of luck Greg! We all appreciate your interwebz mastery!

New hosting service purchased. All Hail Hosting.
First attempt at migration met with non-compliance. Currently starting my tech support journey.

If the migration is successful, I will probably shut down the forum for a day or two next week. Updates as they occur.

I will be offline from Sunday to Friday, hoping not to be assaulted by bears, so your timing is ideal.

I'm sure that's a total coincidence.
Stay out of the bears mouths. Be careful crossing swollen creeks.

Things are in flux, as of course they are. Problems everywhere but I don't want to solve them until the domain pointers stop pointing at this site and point to the new site. Until then, the board is open. It will be closing again. Probably, Sunday.

Hahahahahaha!
So, I tried to update the version of the Forum because it was having problems on the new host and I wanted to get that changed before I do the migration dance. And for once, I actually completed the upgrade but then it wouldn't connect. I was getting the Server 500 error, very popular. get it every time I try to upgrade which is why I haven't upgraded for a few versions. I contacted Tech Support about the issue and they told me I need to contact my new host since the domain pointers were pointing over there now. They also said I shouldn't be playing while things are moving.
So Limbo. I look forward to rough sailing ahead.

See, this is the part where for me it started to look like a problem. You know, I wanted to sacrifice the Precentral vein to order to get some exposure, but because of this guy's normal variation I got excited and all of a sudden I didn't know whether if I was looking at the Precentral vein or one of the internal cerebral veins or the vein of Galen or the Basilar vein of Rosenthal. So on my own, me, at this point I was ready to say, "That's it. Let's get out."
Buckaroo Banzai:
See, you can check your anatomy all you want, and even though there may be normal variation, when you get right down to it, this far inside the head, it all looks the same. {pause} No, no, no, no. Don't tug on that. You never know what it might be attached to.

I know you don't know much about the inter webs, so I'll go slow. The domain transfer takes 5-7 days. I started 4 days ago. I can't do anything until the transfer is complete. Back off, Nature Boy.

Before you do a transfer, turn down the TTLs (time-to-live) on all of your domain records in your DNS to the minimum (like 5min).
What, you don't maintain your own DNS records, then you have to defer to whatever your domain host does...
Wait, not all DNS lookup tools honor the TTL value and are "sticky"...sheesh...
This is why we celebrate System Administrator on July 28th!
