Will he or won't he?
Just got the email from Mrs. DM saying she has scored a Wilderness permit for Yosemite. Another attempt at the elusive Tuolumne Canyon. Even though the trip is in July there might still be snow in the area. I know there will be water.
But will there be me. My knee continues to be crunchy. I fear something going wrong with the leg while we are miles from help. Of course that would mean I get a visit from the nice people in Yosar and they could carry me up that last set of switchbacks.

I’m all in. After the last trip, which was challenging, I realized I don’t have many of these opportunities left. And if it’s the death of me, so be it. I can think of worse deaths.
This is what? Our 3rd attempt at the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne? Three strikes and…

We have secured a back up Wilderness Pass, just in case the GCotT is impassable due to high river flow (we've already been warned). That's an easier loop starting at Mirror Lake.
However, Stacy mentioned that there might be an easy alternative for the wonky knee club. The hike up to the Glen Aulin high camp isn't bad. Any ass can do it (and by ass I mean mule because that's how they get supplies up there). It's not even a day's hike, very manageable. Then you could day hike down to Waterwheel and back to GA, then back out. GA is really beautiful with a nice waterfall too.
One of my Rock/JAH Med accomplices is joining us. We'll do the trip, then come home just in time for Dead & Co...

So many questions. What loops starts at mirror lake?
Would I be doing wonky knee club excursion on my own or is that for everyone?
The fly in the current ointment is my mother is having a party for her 90th birthday on July 14.

Bastille Day. Perhaps a theme party?
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

So many flies. What ointment are you using this year?
Would your mom be upset if you skipped her Bastille birthday?
I just submitted my time off request for this. I've been trying to imagine what it'll be like to come straight off the trail and over to Dead & Co at Oracle. Backpacker b.o. can't be worse than deadhead b.o. and there's always patchouli...

Still don't know what loop starts at Mirror Lake beside the Mirror Lake Loop which isn't much of a backpacking trail and is only about three miles long.
We could put up barricades and storm the prison, I guess. I think we are just going to the Florentine Trattoria and having some cake.

Sorry - I misspoke when I said 'loop'
Entry Point: Mirror Lake->Snow Creek
Entry Date: Jul 10, 2023
Exit Date: Jul 14, 2023
Exit Point: Tamarack Creek - 731
But this is only if the GCotT has rivers that we cannot cross...
Many rivers to cross
And it's only my will that keeps me alive
I've been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride

I don’t think the GCotT will be passable. Too much water. Once again, it defeats us.

The top of Mammoth Mountain received 700" of snow this season. I'm thinking there will be epic floods in the valley this spring.

I saw a report that estimated the Tioga Pass road will not open until July 8.

We are having a small heat wave here in the mountains. It could get over 90º here. No big deal.
However it's going to have a tremendous impact on the snow pack. They are predicting flooding in the Yosemite Valley and are closing the park to protect people. The park will close starting Friday and they don't expect it to reopen until May 3. They also forecast more closing during May and June.

We received our official cancellation for the GCotT permit. Fortunately our back up plan is still valid but the trail is sketch. There’s still snow (which I refuse to camp in - been there, done that, it sucks - and the meadow we planned to camp in one night is swampy. We will probably re-route. We may cut our trip short by a day to return Thursday. We’re going to get it sorted when we get to the ranger station.
Had a scramble when we lost our dog sitter a few days ago but we think it’s sorted.
Vacations are so damn stressful sometimes.
