You know the story of Henry Ford and other US industry moguls backing Hitler? That, I think, is the "some of these events actually happened"...
The cast is great. Michael Shannon and Mike Myers we're strong. Others, not so much (Taylor Swift, Timothy Oliphant). Im still trying to figure out why Christian Bale was doing a Columbo impersonation the entire time. Maybe it was on account of the eye. (Mike Myers SNL sketch reference)

The initial exposition flashback was long. They also had voice overs, but switched between cast which got a little confusing. There is a gratuitous not-telling of the whole story as the plot progresses to keep you engaged which got tedious. There is a silly tone to the movie, like a Wed Anderson film. If the colors were a little more saturated, or Bill Murray made an appearance, it would have fit right in.
I was hoping for more.
