Angus reminded me on fb that this classic is set in 2022. Sho nuf.
It opens with a montage of sepia tone photos that begin with the first cars and planes then gets to the dystopian post apocalyptic vision of nyc. And at the end of that montage, just before the movie gets going are pics of citizens…
… in masks.
This is still a great film. It’s only an hour and a half but it gets a lot done. Heston is a great over actor, on par with Shatner, but he’s been in some of the greatest sci fi flicks of the time like this one.
It’s dated in tech - no computers or cell phones. It’s paper and pad, crt tvs, paper files, hard line phones. There’s no soundtrack which makes it stark.
Robinson is fantastic as Sol and his relationship with Heston’s Thorn is precious. They’re meal of stolen food is a magical scene. Zoo’s death is still moving.
Of course the mcguffin is spoiled. But that’s cool.
Thanks for the rec, Angus!
