RIP Joe Sloan
#1
Joe Sloan was the singer for Spot 1019. I’m only seeing fragments on Facebook implying that he has passed away. I don’t know any details yet and hope that it’s not true. I’ll post more when I know more.

We weren’t close buds, but I think of him as my friend.

Sometime ago, I discovered I had a cassette of a bootleg recording I made at a Spot 1019 show at OT Price's in Santa Cruz around 1988...the sound quality is terrible, but included is a cover they did of To Sir with Love. I've seen them quite a lot, probably an unhealthy amount of times...and I don't recall hearing them play it much, and it stuck with me as hilarious and sad. When Joe died, I remembered the song, which they never recorded...and my shitty bootleg, and decided to make a tribute music video:

The photo is of Joe's old jacket which was hanging next to a bowl of red foam clown noses at the memorial.

The band just put out a "from the vault" release today and it includes the last two songs they recorded as a band, one of which was "To Sir"...
