Alan Tudyk stars as the stranded alien living in Patience, CO. Why has an alien come to earth is an answer you wouldn't expect.
At first the show comes across as an heir to John Carpenter's Starman, but something darker is going. With Harry the Doctor and just with the town itself. There is a murder. There is spousal abuse. Harry the Doctor needs to kill a kid who can see through his disguise. It jumps back and forth between funny and terrifying. There is not a lot of motivation for some of the character's action in this first episode but I hope it smooths out.
And I liked it. It is kind of quirky. I always enjoy Alan Tudyk's performances and this is very Alan Tudyk. Best of all, the alien isn't here to deliver a valuable lesson.

S1 Ep2 It is still funny at times. But the story telling is all over the place. There are too many threads. They need to focus on one. He deals with human emotions. He goes on a date. He looks for the missing artifact. He needs to kill one of the humans. He needs to learn to be a doctor. The funniest bits usually occur right after he declaims he is so much smarter than a human.

S1 Ep3 For the first half, the show felt like a show. The storylines seemed to tie together. But then there were a bunch of scenes where I just felt like I didn't even know why those scenes were in there. They had a big reveal at the end Ep2 but they never talked about it again which was disappointing. On the flip side, there are some really funny bits that make me laugh out loud. Tudyk does a great job as the alien. They just need to work on their stories.
And then there is a big scene at the end, that makes me want to see next week's episode.

S1 Ep4 The best episode yet. It had some really funny bits ("I've got Rigor Mortis") and some sad bits. For the first time all the storylines paid off or made sense. There's this weird journey that Harry's assistant at the clinic, Asta is on. I didn't see how it was working in regards to the show, but they finally made it tie together. But there is so many little things going. There is still the murder mystery that gets a scene every week. There is still this weird pair that is chasing the alien that has yet to be defined. The also get a scene.
This week it all gelled. And much like last week, there was a big cliff hanger at the end.

S1 Ep5 Another good episode. I think the writers have found their way. Of course, they keep insisting on the weird adopted daughter subplot which is distracting rather than supporting. We are getting more information on the back story of the real Doctor Harry which could cause further complications for our Alien Harry. I'm beginning to become invested in the show.

S1 Ep6 and Ep7
Although they seem like they are from a different show, the side characters continue to amuse. There is still the ongoing murder investigation of the town doctor that kicked off the show. They introduced a big star as a government official which was fun. Hank's wife shows up and Hank gets to learn about sex. (My dick has Rigor Mortis!) I'm at the point where I can't wait for new shows.
It looks there are two episodes left.

S1 Ep8 Lots of Alien Goodness. The government closes in. Ata learns Harry's secret. One laugh out loud funny line. Lots of drama in this episode. Two more episodes to go and it's already been signed up for a second season.
It's not a great show by any stretch. It does have it's flaws. But it can be quite funny.

And then it was over. There was a pretty funny fight scene. There are some improbable situations, but then that's what RA does. And it has a good cliff hanger to next season.
I will miss watching the episodes on Thursday until the new shows start back up.

And we're back. This episode felt like two different episodes. In the first episode, Harry can't remember who he is and the kids must defend the invisible spaceship that sits in the middle of a baseball field. Meanwhile the mayor and his wife are still erotically charged from their fight with the government and venture into some different sex play. In the second episode (still the first episode) Harry bemoans the fact he is stuck on earth.
It was a nice fun episode. Nathon Fillion gets a bigger role. Can't wait for next week.

S02 Ep02 The police are focusing on Harry for the murder of the doctor. Harry meanwhile is building a bunker to ride out the coming alien extinction event. A lot of slow quiet humor. Som laugh out loud chuckles. It's not a great show, more like comfort food because of the engaging characters.

Hmm. I finished the season, or the first half of the season yet I didn't write any more reports.
Anyway, the second half of season 2 returns in August.

Okay. Still watching. I think I'm three (four?) episodes in. The best thing about the show is the opening credits where they do a cartoon of what the Alien should do to better blend in with humanity. The show has it's highs and lows. A lot of time it feels like the writers are just winging it with the storylines, but oh well. It occasionally can be very funny. Sometimes it gets very maudlin. I think I'm watching it more out of habit than enjoyment at this point and Alan Tudyk is good at the alien although he's gotten more whacky in his alien voice as the show progresses.
In the latest episode, they've decided time travel would help out the show. It was kind on an interesting way to go. They also did a side quest into environmental awareness. I'm still waiting for a really good Linda Hamilton episode.

George Takei drops in. The series still has tone problems going from personal relationship storylines to whacky Alien storylines. It comes across as uneven. In this episode Arstra meets up with the mother who abandoned here. That doesn't go well. Darcy is in the early stages of opioid addiction as she competes in Moguls skiing. But it's kind of played for laughs. Too many storylines distracting from the main storyline of the world ending. But jokes! And lots of genre actor stalwarts like Linda Hamilton and Terry O'Quinn.

And that is it for Season 2. The Grey aliens led by George are going to destroy the Earth, but Alan Tudyk has to decided whether he wants to escape from Earth or stay and fight. Lots alien abductions. The sheriff and the deputy continue to spar. The mayor has problems. Oh, look. A cliff hanger.
The show can be dumb and melodramatic but Alan Tudyk always does a good job.
