The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965)
#1
We felt like remembering Le Carre.

Richard Burton is a spy, acting like a drunk, to fool Russians into thinking he's disgruntled and that he can be turned. But it's really a complex plot to set up another operative. But you can't fake drunk. And he falls for a commie librarian, or she falls for him. And it all goes down around the Berlin Wall.

It's a classic of B&W. Some of the panning shots and many of the outdoor scenes have this cinema verite that's so genuine, and cold. It feels really cold. Gripping in its own quiet slow burn. And M, the original movie M, plays a shopkeeper.

No sword fights. Recommended for DOOM cinephiles but I imagine most of you've seen this already. I may have but I don't remember it at all, so we're calling it fresh.
