The Ides of March (2011)
#1
Written, directed & starring Clooney, who I usually only like in Coen flicks, but he's okay as an evil Democratic presidential candidate. Gosling is the young idealist campaign assistent.  Giamatti & Seymour Hoffman are the jaded campaign manager rivals (great casting here). Tomei is the NYT reporter. Evan Rachel Wood is the hottie intern (we all know where her story arc goes).  It's engaging and very well acted, however fictional political thrillers just can't match today's real world political scandals and corruption, so it feels dated, right down to the Nokia burner phones that we only see used by perps in TV police procedural shows now.  Thanks 45, for spoiling a whole genre of film I used to like.  No sword fights.  Coulda used one.  Not particularly DOOM recommended. Watched it only because tomorrow is the ides of March.
