On September 12th 'Star Wars' is being released on DVD yet again. This time it includes the original 1977 cut and a re-re-re-mastered version.
This site presents a frame-by-frame comparison of the two versions:

They were still fun. What can I say? Everyone here appreciates Star Wars.
The new digital stuff in IV bothered me. The stormtroopers on those big desert lizards where irratating because it blows Obi-wan's line about the Sand people riding banthas in a straight line while those tracks were in rank. IV didn't need those changes. The addition of the Jabba scene is good. You'd think they'd have changed Luke's cry of 'Carrie' instead of 'Leia' after he destroys the deathstar, but no.
In V, Yoda was far better as a puppet. He seemed much more real and lifelike than he does as the CGI-generated figure. In contrast, Jabba looks better in CGI. He was a crappy puppet.
In VI, it also bothered me that Leia remembers her mom but Luke doesn't. Weren't they separated from their mom at the same time? The ewoks didn't bother me as much as before. I remember hearing that ewok was wookie spelled sideways and that Lucas really wanted to end it on the wookie planet but couldn't figure out how to do it (why is Chewbacca's name Chewbacca if he can only say "aARRRh!"). After seeing the wookie battle in III, it wasn't much better than the ewok battle. I still like Admiral Ackbar. He's just too funny to me.
The death of Boba Fett still goes down as the most anti-climactic scene ever. He was only cool at the end of V, because in VI, he dies in such a silly way, and in I, II & III, no matter how they build his character, you know he's still going to die silly. It's an absurd tangent of a plot thread that ultimately leads nowhere.
You should hear my kids classmates discuss Star Wars. It's hilarious. The boys all love it. It's a major accomplishment of boyhood to have seen all six films.

New Ending? Yikes! At least the scrapped the Ewok song. But did we really need to see all the planets celebrate the death of the Emperor? With streamers and confetti, no less. And did we need Hayden Christensen's ghost? Does he get residuals for that film, too? Very odd

That wasn't in the version I saw. The DVD I saw seemed pretty much what I remembered from the original version, except it kept skipping at the end. Rental DVDs don't seem to last as long as vidoetapes did.

... as were added scenes of simultaneous celebration of the destruction of the second Death Star on Naboo, Tatooine, Coruscant... and I thought, what the eff??? How did everybody else find out about it so fast? That FTL instant communication technology is really impressive. Then I saw the Hayden Christansen ghost and I groaned. So, what, when you return to the good side from the dark side after death you're also young and uninjured??? But since Obiwan never turned to the dark side, he stays as Alec Guiness and doesn't get to turn back into Ewan MacGregor?
My head hurts.

Then: Star Wars was a gem of creativity
Now: R2D2 is a shill for the postal service.
Quote:To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the U.S. Postal Service has temporarily converted hundreds of blue collection boxes into likenesses of R2-D2 across the country, labeled with the address of a Web site that will announce a new Lucasfilm/USPS promotion on March 28.

I am quick as a whip, my neurons firing on all eight cylinders (am I dating myself by mentioning a V8?).
That is why it has only taken me a bit over 2 years to finally get "May the fourth be with you."

Disney+ is developing a female-centered Star Wars series that will be written and showrun by Lesley Headland, a co-creator of Netflix’s Emmy-winning dramedy series Russian Doll.
Deadline has confirmed the gist of the series. While the exact plot is under wraps, but the series is understood to be a female-driven action thriller with martial arts elements and set in an alternate timeline from the usual Star Wars universe. Disney declined comment on the project, which was first reported by Variety.
It marks the latest Disney+ original series in the Star Wars universe, following the successful The Mandalorian created by Jon Favreau which is already underway on Season 3 ahead of its Season 2 bow. That too has a strong female element in Gina Carano’s butt-kicking shock trooper-turned-mercenary Cara Dune.
Two other Star Wars series are in development at the Disney streamer: an Obi-Wan Kenobi series returning Ewan McGregor to the role from the prequel trilogy, and a Rogue One series based on the 2016 stand-alone feature film that returns Diego Luna as rebel Cassian Andor.
Headland co-created Russian Doll with star Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler. The dramedy was nominated for 13 Emmys for its first season, winning two. It was renewed for Season 2. The writer-director’s other credits include the 2015 film Sleeping With Other People.
In December, Headland has signed a multi-year overall deal with Fox 21 Television Studios to create, develop and direct series for network, cable and streaming platforms.
