Journey to China: The Mystery of the Iron Mask
#1
Jackie vs Arnie.  Sword fight.  That should be 'nuf said, right?  But maybe not.

This is a Sino-Russian production that's been in the works for a while.  It's actually the sequel to something called Viy, and I'd love to see that now because the reference to that film was very odd, intriguing and incongruent.  It's a fantasy with steampunk elements, Russian Tsar Peter the First, a dragon, Mission-Impossible-esque face masks (both of those two were very GoT), a cutesy demon (not yaoguai, some sort of Russian flying monkey), some goofy hijinks, a dwarf and cross dressing.  Set in the Tower of London and some silk road tea plantation, there's the story of Jackie and Arnie bookending this, and then the bulk of the story with other characters.  It's actually not bad, engaging enough, one of those flight of fancy fantasies with lots of design elements, plus there's a siege scene, which is okay.  The villains are cool, reminiscent of the three storms from Big Trouble in Little China, only steampunk.  There's some great costumes and decent flying fight choreo.  The Jackie vs Arnie fight is okay, played more for fun than for skills.  They're both old now, but they show each other a lot of respect.  I was more entertained than I thought I'd be.

Semi-DOOM recommended, mostly just for bragging rights.  I mean to be able to say 'Yeah, I saw that Jackie/Arnie flick that came out this year...how did you miss that?'  It was only distributed in China & Russia.

I'm caught up with Jackie again.
